About St. Paul

Our mission at St. Paul is to share Christ’s love and forgiveness and live as God’s humble servants as a caring and welcoming church. We gather for a traditional Lutheran worship service with Holy Communion each Sunday at 10:30am.

We offer Sunday school for children 5 years of age and older during our regular 10:30am worship service throughout the regular school year.

In December, 2022, we called the Rev. Heidi Holst to be our new full-time Pastor at St. Paul effective January 2, 2023. We celebrated Pastor Heidi’s installation service on February 5th, 2023.

Though we live in a time when many churches are facing new challenges in terms of attendance and ministry and St. Paul isn’t immune from these trends, we are committed to being an active, growing congregation with a focus on children and families.

We are actively engaged in supporting and ministering to those who need us most in our neighborhood and our community.

Our congregation began on September 7, 1868, when a group of German Lutherans met in Daniel Bischof’s Hall to organize a separate church and incorporate as the German Evangelical Lutheran St. Paul’s Church. Subsequently, a frame church building, which still stands today, was dedicated on May 8, 1870.  The Joint Synod of Ohio provided pastors until 1908 when St. Paul became a member of the Pittsburgh Synod.

On April 11, 1919, a new site was purchased at the northeast corner of High St. and Vine. The cornerstone was laid at the new location on November 6, 1921, and the new church building was dedicated on September 17, 1922. In 1928 the congregation withdrew from the Pittsburgh Synod and joined the Ohio Synod.

Pastor Carl Coad was called in 1958 and stayed until his retirement in 1979. Our current property was purchased under his leadership, and the first section of the new building including the sanctuary was dedicated in June, 1961. An education wing with offices, a parlor, a fellowship hall and, later, a bell tower, were completed in 1963.

Whether you are new to the Christian faith or a lifelong Lutheran, you will we warmly and inclusively welcomed by the people of St. Paul. All are welcome!

We invite you to take a moment and view the videos below from some of our members as they share what makes St. Paul such a special and important part of their spiritual lives.
